A Season of Small Wonders: Beauty in the Ordinary and Sacred
A reflection on noticing, remembering, and finding sacred meaning in simple things.
December invites us to pause and rest, not in the sense of halting everything, but in noticing more. There’s a softness to the light, a hush to the morning. A kind of wonder woven into even the simplest tasks.
I’ve been noticing how the windows glow in the late afternoon, how the floor creaks in familiar ways as little feet run through the room. There’s something sacred in all of it: ordinary, yes, but quietly extraordinary if I take time to see it.
This is the season of small wonders. Of candles lit for no reason other than comfort, of songs played while baking, of singing and dancing to our soul’s delight, of gathering what we already have and offering it with care.
The world outside may be loud, glittering, or hurried. But here, we are choosing the slower beauty. The sacred, tucked into daily life. The meaning that’s often missed if we blink too quickly and rush through our days.
My hope this season is not to accomplish everything but to attend to what matters. To let the story unfold, one quiet page at a time.
May your December hold wonder, not in what’s planned, but in what’s simply present.
