September mornings have their own rhythm around here.
By the time breakfast is cleared away, beds are made, and hair is brushed, the morning is already well underway. The elder children prepare to begin their schoolwork, and the younger children get ready for their school day.
The days have a little more shape now. Mornings move with purpose, afternoons fill in their own way, and by evening the house begins to settle again.
It isn’t the slower pace of summer, but it has its own kind of familiarity and ease.
Not every day follows the plan. Someone forgets something. Dinner takes longer than expected. A basket of laundry waits until tomorrow.
As dusk approaches, books are closed. Shoes are set aside. The kitchen bears the evidence of another full day before it is put back together for morning.
The dishwasher gets ready to begin its cycle.
The lunchboxes are repacked and put away for tomorrow.
And tomorrow, it will all happen again.
